Shibui is a Japanese word, which translates to "refined and elegant beauty", and the interesting products at Shibui Homewares reflect this idea. 

Shibui Homewares at 27 Vulture Street, West End, Brisbane opened in October 2003. 

Owners, husband and wife team Shozo Terauchi and Justine Llewelyn, have a unique shop, which is a treasure trove of hand-sourced beautiful and eclectic products. 

Justine and Shozo met 18 years ago in Japan and have a shared passion for collecting Japanese ceramics, antiques and fabrics, and mid-20th century furniture. Shozo has a background in Mechanical Engineering but came to Australia to study Visual Arts. Justine studied Asian Studies and lived in Japan after university. We travel to Kyoto, (Shozo's hometown), and other locations in Western Japan, twice a year to hand-source our products. We delight in finding something special and well crafted. 

We also make a unique range of items for our store (handbags, jewellery, and cushions). Shibui Homewares stocks an interesting mix of antique, vintage and new Japanese ceramics. We also sell Japanese antique furniture (including tea cabinets, sewing boxes, display cabinets & tansu) and restored mid-20th century Australian furniture. We stock a special range of cushions made from Japanese fabrics, a collection of handcrafted jewellery, handbags made from vintage kimono and obi silk, Japanese incense, lighting, and many other unique pieces.
